Expedição à GROENLÂNDIA: COMO É e QUANTO CUSTA um Cruzeiro de LUXO para o Ártico com Aurora Boreal

Imagine a distant… frozen… isolated, almost uninhabited place. How about embarking on an expedition to discover everything this land has to offer? Eleven days aboard a luxury cruise, to explore landscapes you’ve never seen before. Icebergs that look like have been hand-painted, immense glaciers. We’re getting some ice from the glacier, because, look at here we can see the bubbles inside it. And an ice fjord that is a World Heritage Site. The famous iceberg that sank the Titanic came out of this glacier. Speaking of ice, would you dare to dive into these freezing waters? Guys, this experience is only for the strong. There is wildlife appearing really close to us, and little animals that are not so wild. However, an expedition through Greenland offers much more. Exciting encounters with people who learned to live alone, eating what nature has to offer, and that thanks to it, have preserved their own history for centuries. Four mummies that remained frozen for over 500 years and were discovered by chance in the 1970s. There is a ghost town, an ice beach, and plenty of comfort on board our ship, after all, everything is included. A luxurious cabin, exquisite cuisine, drinks, and a warm pool, to relax enjoying the scenery. You can have breakfast watching icebergs, enjoy an unforgettable sunset, and marvel with a real dance in the sky. The Northern Lights happened, in fact, it didn’t just happen, it exploded, it shone across the entire sky, it danced for us, it’s a dream come true indeed. Do you want to know how much it costs to have this whole experience? Well, wrap up in warm clothes and embark with us on this incredible expedition to one of the most remote and spectacular places on the planet. Welcome to Greenland. Hello everyone, good morning! Look at us starting a new expedition, one of those to remember forever. Along the years we’ve had some memorable experiences, however, some of them really stick in our hearts. This expedition will definitely be one of them, as we’re taking part in a project that we’ve created for ourselves, it is a dream coming true. As you’ve seen on the channel, we’ve already had the opportunity to visit Antarctica, we’ve been to the South Pole and had an incredible experience. So, since we went south, we thought, it’s time for us to go north. If we’ve already explored Antarctica, now it’s time for us to discover the Arctic. That’s precisely what we’re going to do from now on. We’ve embarked on a new expedition with Swam Hellenic, the same Cruise company that took us to Antarctica, but this time to go all the way around Greenland, how wonderful! The Greenland expedition is starting now. You can already see that it’s going to be amazing, just take a look at this scenery, isn’t it an emblematic Greenland scenery? By the way, I would like to tell you something interesting: Did you know that Groanlândia, in English, is actually called Greenland? Which means Green Land. However, as you can see, there’s nothing green around here, Greenland is known for being the land of ice. So, here’s something interesting: there in the past, when the Vikings were exploring this region, they discovered two territories, Greenland and Iceland, which in English mean ‘Greenland,’ the Green Land, and ‘Iceland,’ the Land of Ice. Then you may ask, if this is the land of ice, why did they name the other territory Iceland? Because they wanted to confuse their enemies, did you know that? They named Iceland, meaning land of the ice, the green territory, an easy place to conquer, and named Greenland, meaning land of vegetation, the territory full of ice, this way. So, when their enemies found out about the discoveries, they said, let’s try to conquer the best territory, let’s take the green land from them. When they got here, they noticed that in fact it was an inhospitable territory, completely made of ice, and they lost the war. We will get to know this unique place, already sharing this fun fact with you, as part of our expedition from north to south. And I think it’s going to be absolutely amazing. Are you ready to embark with us? Then, in case you are not subscribed to the channel, subscribe now, leave your like for this video and share it with your friends, because I think it will truly be a spectacular trip. Come with us explore Greenland. Our adventure begins in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, a charming region full of different things to do. Before embarking on the expedition, we spent five days here, and had a great time. We went 120 meters down inside a volcano, witnessed another one throwing lava into the air, saw the Northern Lights for the first time, and bathed in thermal pools. There is a video here on the channel showing you everything in detail. When you finish this one, go check it out, it’s incredible. Let’s go back to the ship, it is anchored right in the city center. At six in the evening, it’s time to leave and enjoy the first sunset on board. The second day is at sea, we continue crossing the northernmost part of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a perfect day to relax, enjoy the ship, learn what to expect in the coming days, and get ready, because tomorrow morning we arrive in Greenland. Good morning everyone! We can finally say that we are in Greenland. Look at this spectacular scenery, the size of this glacier, these mountains, we’ve finally arrived in this territory in the very north of the world, to show you everything from an incredible angle. Come here, come here, I would like to talk to you better, come here. This stunning trip is starting, today is just the first stop of many we’ll have around here, we’ll stay in Greenland for 11 days, it’s Greenland in depth. As you can see, we’re starting in high style, look at this scenery, how spectacular. It’s a day of sailing through a wonderful channel, which goes around an island with an unpronounceable name, I’ll leave the name here. This is one of the advantages of being on a tiny ship, it can access awesome places, and we’re having this incredible view of Greenland. We’re really excited, it’s only the first stop, the day is spectacular, and now it’s time to get off the ship, let’s get ready and get off. We are making our first tour in Greenland, and this one here is the Zodiac, these boats are our best friends during the trip. When we are in a remote place, where the access is not easy, we use them to go on the tour. As I’ve explained, we are going through a channel, circling an island, there is no land for you to stop and explore, so, we are going to take a Zodiac tour. In Greenland it is a little different from when we went to Antarctica. In Antarctica we did almost everything by Zodiac, here in Greenland we are going to have some stops in cities. It is amazing, you are able to see the ship there, you admire the landscape, and with the Zodiac you get really close to the places. It will be wonderful, I am really excited. This Zodiac ride will last about an hour, an hour and a half, and something interesting is that the pilot is also a guide, so, during the ride she explains everything to us about the region, how glaciers are formed, why this glacier is in the water, if we look up, there is a glacier hanging from the mountain, it has a completely different style. It is really a privilege, seeing that it is an expedition, we are exploring, we are gaining knowledge and we are seeing everything up close, and today is only the first day, there is so much coming up, it will be simply wonderful. We are collecting some ice from the glacier, because, take a look, we can see the bubbles inside them, look at the contrast with the black glove, we can clearly see the bubbles inside, it is really interesting. Here is something interesting, the ice is salty, because there is this layer of sea water around it, so if you taste it, it is salty. Do you want some? When we get back to the ship, the day is not over yet. It has started sailing through the Channel of Darkness, which is not at all dark, it is beautiful, it is a super narrow channel, full of icebergs, and there is even a glacier. Look at this spectacular one passing by right now. Is it cold? It is freezing! But we are enjoying everything inside a heated pool, it is wonderful, look at this scenery, how pleasant. And here it is like this, we were relaxing in the cabin, lying down, and suddenly there was an announcement saying: "there’s a whale near the ship". Oh my God, here, here, right here. Obviously, everyone runs out to see the whale. I’m not lying, you’ve seen that the whale is blowing right next to the ship. We will try to film and show it to you. That’s how it works here we’re on an expedition, things happen, they announced it, Tiago is filming here, look, you can still see the jet here, very close to the ship. Now we are in the Club Lounge, this incredible place, there is a fireplace, it’s where you come to have afternoon tea, where there is coffee all night long, cookies, anyway, as you can see it’s a beautiful place to relax. We are here in the middle of the night, recovering, I came here to warm up, because until now I was outside, feeling cold, but having a dream come true. This Cruise has a very long name, it’s called Greenland in Depth and Northern Lights. Yes, they gave this name to this itinerary because it is an itinerary with great chance of seeing the Northern Lights happen. The route it takes here in Greenland, even during the summer, experiences shorter nights, however, the movement of the Northern Lights, is very strong. It depends on the weather, it depends on clear skies, anyway, several things, but there is a chance. But why am I here now, recovering in the middle of the night, in this outfit, having tea? Because we were out there and it happened, the Northern Lights happened, and it didn’t just happen, it exploded, it shone in the entire sky, it danced for us, it’s a dream come true, it’s something unique, we’re absolutely thrilled. We were out there until now trying to record it to show you. Of course it’s very difficult, we’re on a ship, the ship moves, it’s rocking, whether we like it or not, even sailing slowly, the water is calm, but to be able to record the Northern Lights you need to have long exposure, you have to use a tripod, and many other details. But we managed to record at least a little bit, and we’re going to show you now. I am speechless, you need to see it, we’ll show some photos, we’ll show you some videos, and you’ll admire the spectacle on the sky that we have just seen. We will try to go back there, we came here to recover a bit, because it’s freezing, but it’s absolutely worth it. So, watch the Northern Lights that we’ve just seen in Greenland sky, because it was unique. If just like us, you got amazed by this green dance in the sky, hold on tight, because by the end of the expedition we will be surprised again, but this time with an explosion of different colors. Good morning everyone, starting our fourth day of the expedition through Greenland. Today it will be the second stop, take a look at this weather, once again, we’re being blessed with wonderful weather, blue skies, sun, to enjoy this landscape. Today we will visit a small village with an unpronounceable name, I’m writing it here for you. It’s a village that can only be accessed by water, there’s no land access, only 80 people live there, but that’s a topic for later, because to get there we pass through one of the highlights of the trip. We’re sailing through Prince Christian Sound, this wonderful waterway. The ship goes through narrow spaces, discovering the most incredible landscapes, that’s what we will enjoy from now on. I’m really excited to start this day. Let’s enjoy it, it’s promising to be spectacular. And take a look, as we navigate through the channel here surprising landscapes appear, there are icebergs, mountains, and take a look here, a beautiful waterfall coming down from the glacier. These are absolutely extreme landscapes, which enchant us, every way we turn there’s a surprise, I’ll prove it to you, turn this way, turn this way, look what’s on this side here, a gigantic, beautiful iceberg, passing right now by the ship, it’s surreal. This is the kind of trip where you can’t sleep, you have to stay alert the whole time, people here say it’s like firefighters, you have to lie down with your clothes ready right there, because at any moment something may happen, and then it’s time to quickly get dressed and enjoy the scenery. That’s what we’ve been doing since the beginning of this expedition, and I’m sure that’s how we’ll continue until the end. One thing I like about Swan, this has already happened to us in Antarctica, is that you’re always surprised. Today, for example, it’s a beautiful day, a wonderful landscape, then, out of nowhere, they say, lunch won’t be at the restaurant today, let’s have a barbecue by the pool. The restaurant on deck 4 is also open, but for those who prefer to stay outdoors, there is a buffet inside, and there is barbecue, there is shrimp, there is meat, there are snacks too, there is pizza, in other words, you can eat whatever you want, enjoy a view like this, and get ready to get off the ship in a little while. – Hello, Hello! – Are you having fun? I’m having fun, I’m traveling… what’s the name again? Viaje… – Viaje Por Conta! Viaje Por Conta! Tell them about the GB channel! Go watch some sports! – You have to subscribe there too, okay! – Fábio has ruined the game. – I’ve ruined the game. Here we are, in Aappilattoq. That’s right, this is the town, the whole town, as I’ve said, there are 80 people living here, so, it’s a very tiny little village. Our ship is docked over there, we took the Zodiac, got here, and will take a walk around the town. What is there to do around here? Well, we will go to a lookout point that they say provides wonderful views. I believe it, because from my perspective here, I can already imagine it will be spectacular. After that, we will visit the church and the school in the town. What will it be like? We were welcomed by a little boy playing soccer. That’s the essence of this type of trip, you get to know, in addition to nature, the locals, people who have very different kind of life from ours. I’m loving it, it’s really special to arrive in a place like this, to be welcomed by smiling people, and to have contact with other people from completely different cultures. Let’s enjoy everything this little town has to offer. It’s time to visit our cabin on this luxury Cruise we’re taking through Greenland. Come with me, take a look, there’s plenty of cool things here. The first thing I need to tell you is that it’s spacious, with lots and lots of closet space, after all, on this type of expedition, we need to keep everything organized. All our clothes are stored away. You can see the first part of the cabin, our bed, look how beautiful it is. Something very important: this is a waterproof parka, we get one on every expedition, it’s necessary for going out, especially when it’s raining a little, you’ll see us wearing it a lot during our tours. Come over here, there’s something really cool to show you. Have you ever seen a Cruise cabin with a fireplace? I bet you haven’t. This is a virtual fireplace, no one is going to set the ship on fire, it’s a virtual fireplace, it has a remote control, you can turn it on and off, there is even the sound of fire, so, you can sleep relaxed with the fireplace. It’s well decorated, classic décor, everything carefully chosen. Come here, keep coming to the back, here’s our little living room. We love this here, a little sofa, where we sit and relax. We were very well welcomed, with snacks, welcome letters. Another thing that’s unique, this is a pair of binoculars, every cabin has binoculars for you to observe marine life and landscapes. This type of expedition is like that, you always need to be prepared for what’s coming. Shall we turn around? There is a coffee machine, there are glasses, a minibar, everything included, we’re on an all-inclusive Cruise, so the minibar is also allowed. There is a desk, do you see how big this TV is? This is the camera at the front of the ship, so we can watch the landscape that’s coming up. If you want to watch it on TV, that’s fine, but if you don’t want to, you can watch it live, come here, let’s go to our big balcony, because the landscape is breathtaking, The balcony is big, there is a little table, two chairs, so we can just sit here and enjoy this wonderful view, which changes as the expedition goes on. This is magic in the Arctic, every day we’re in a different place, with a different landscape. There’s a lot more coming. Tell me, did you like our cabin? Come back here, come back here, because it’s cold, it’s sunny, but it’s cold. I’ll get inside to show you the view a little bit more. how about it, I’ll stay here. And the expedition continues. There is a complete gym at SH Vega, check it out, a bike, several pieces of equipment, and a treadmill with panoramic view, for you to walk admiring the sea. This is wonderful, there is no excuse, you will be able to exercise, unless you are like us, who always find an excuse to avoid the gym. Do you know what there is right next to the gym, here on deck 8? There is a relaxation area, where we simply love to stay. There is a lounge chair here, there are several things for you to do, I’ll show you everything, there is sauna, something essential in a cold destination, you come here to warm up, it’s huge, it’s a dry sauna, take a look at its size, how nice. After the polar plunge, when you jump into the icy waters, this is the place everyone comes to, it’s awesome. It’s freezing outside, but as we like water, it’s possible to enjoy, there is a warm Jacuzzi, look how nice, especially when you have such a beautiful view, you come here, enjoy it, I really want to get inside, I will leave this here and show you. It’s warm, deep, look at this, there’s one more step down, you just come here, sit down, relax and enjoy it. Wow, guys, it’s really warm, it’s really nice. Take a look at this view, you are in a really cold place, there are snowy mountains behind, there is a warm Jacuzzi here, you can turn it on and have the bubbles, it’s awesome. Tell me, isn’t it beautiful? Let me talk to you about something really important, there is internet on board, you can stay connected. And I have to tell you that in Greenland it works really well. As we are on an all-inclusive Cruise, Swan Hellenic has a basic package already included. When we went to Antarctica, a more remote place, it oscillated a lot, but here in Greenland it is working really well. In case you want a better package, to do more things, like us, who need the internet to be able to work, there are other packages that you can upgrade to. We got the best package so we could truly have access to everything and be able to work, and I have to tell you that it’s impeccable, it works really well, it’s super-fast, we’re loving it. We never imagined we’d be connected in a place like this, but here you’ll have connection all the time, if you want to post, you can post, it works really well, it’s wonderful. So look, guys, there’s internet in Greenland too! Another option for you to stay connected, not only on the ship but also during the stops, is to leave Brazil with everything planned and the Holafly eSIM on your cell phone. Before your trip, you make the purchase and install it by scanning the QR Code or the code, which will be sent to you immediately via email. Then, at your destination, you just need to activate it and get connected in no time. Holafly eSIM works in over 200 destinations around the world, with unlimited data in most of them. There is even a specific package for Greenland, can you believe it? We’ve tested it and it’s worked really well. It doesn’t matter whether your trip is short or long, Holafly has packages that range from 5 to 90 days of use, for countries, entire continents, or specific cities, meaning you can customize it for the exact places and time you need. Access the QR Code that is here on the side, or the link in the video description and stay connected worldwide with Holafly. One more stop on our expedition. Today we’ve arrived in Ivittut, an abandoned city. Yesterday we were in a village with 80 people, today there are much less, a total of zero. This place worked as a mine for extracting this mineral, this white one that you see here, called cryolite, during 110 years. But since 1987 it has no longer been mined commercially, so, the structure that we will visit today is completely abandoned. It’s a curious place, we will literally take a walk through a ghost town, and you will come with us. In addition to the mining structure, there are also several abandoned houses, which only remain standing because they are rented to hunters who come here at certain times of the year. The highlight is this little tea house, look how cute, it is well preserved inside. Another place to visit around here is the cemetery, but in a ghost town, it’s better not to disturb those people there. We walked a little further and decided to board the Zodiac again to go back to the ship. Things that make sense in Greenland: seeing icebergs. What you’re seeing is a beautiful iceberg, with a hole in the middle. Do you know why it makes sense? Because this one here is an iceberg on a beach. We’ve arrived at a beach covered in icebergs, everywhere you look there’s ice, and we are right in the city. Take a look at the houses behind here, there are even buildings, do you know why? Because we’ve arrived in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, this is the largest city in Greenland, there are 15,000 inhabitants, and it’s a stop that we were really excited about, after all, getting to know the capital of a country is always amazing. We’ve arrived in the capital of Greenland and immediately got a surprise, there is a beach covered in icebergs. We visited an iceberg beach in Iceland, known as Diamond Beach, precisely because it has a lot of ice. I’ll have to tell you that there’s a lot more here, look how beautiful it is, let’s visit Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, I’ve heard that there is a lot to do around here, even a museum with unique things. Come with us. The National Museum in Nuuk holds unimaginable relics, we will see them now. There are four mummies that remained frozen for over 500 years and were discovered now, in the 1970s, by chance. Two hunters were doing their daily work when they found an old Inuit cemetery, which they estimate dates from 1475, before the discovery of Brazil, and in this cemetery, there were eight Inuit bodies, from many, many years ago. Of these eight bodies, four are on display here, one of them is a baby, it’s remarkable. Nowadays these mummies are considered the greatest relics of the ancient Arctic, as thanks to them, it was possible to learn a lot about the Inuit from more than 500 years ago, what they wore, what their body tattoos were like, because in fact, these mummies were not mummified as we know from the ancient Egypt did, they were simply preserved by freezing, over 500 years of freezing, and we will have the privilege to see four of them now. They are kept in this dark room, and you can visit them. We are the only ones inside the museum now, to be able to show you with exclusivity, come with me, it is absolutely impressive, let’s go. What you are seeing are the bodies of three women and a child. They identified that they were women because they had tattoos on their faces, which was a common tradition among the Inuit in the past. As a matter of fact, they only stopped using these tattoos after Europe began to carry out a mission here in Greenland, and they associated tattoos with pagan people, who did not believe in religion. The most impressive one is obviously the tiny and completely preserved baby. You can’t miss a visit to this place, if you come to Greenland, to the capital Nuuk, it is one of the most surreal things I have ever seen in my life. I’ve told you that on this trip we would get to know Greenland in depth, that is the name of the Cruise. Now we are on another stop, in Sisimiut. Let’s call it a village, since it is not the capital, which has 15,000 inhabitants, let’s call this a village, and we will get to know it in a different way, by quad bike. You can already see that the view is spectacular. This is an optional tour, at every place there is a tour that is already included, we will also do it later. This is an optional tour that you can book, it’s a 2-hour quad bike ride through this entire unique region, after all, we are in Greenland, so, we would like to show you a little bit. I think it will be amazing, the landscape is spectacular. We picked up the quad bike right at the port, they were already waiting for us when we got off the ship. Then we drove a little bit, got here, and this is where the off-road tour begins. To give you an idea, this is the lake that supplies the entire city with fresh water, both for drinking and for any other use, it is a good place for us to start our visit to this city. Come with us. A strategic stop for us to take a look at the unique landscape, with mountains, greenery, rocks, and the port, we can see the port from here too. We are up high, but at the same time, close by. This kind of weather, with clouds, makes everything so different. I am enjoying it indeed, it’s what you expect to see here, you don’t expect strong sun, blue sky, which is also nice, but this weather here is perfect. That’s it! The path is beautiful, let’s keep going. Do you know how many people live in this city? Six thousand people. But if you think that these are the only inhabitants who live here, you are very mistaken, there are also fifteen hundred dogs, can you believe it? They’re "working dogs," as they say, working dogs, not pets because here, they are essential, dogs are used a lot, mainly for sledding and transportation. In the past, 30, 40 years ago, they were all spread out, whoever had a dog, kept them in their houses, wherever they were. Then, a law was instituted, determining that all these dogs should stay in a certain area, so, whoever had a dog, whoever was a dog owner, by the way, each owner used to have about 20, they had to move, rent a piece of land far from the city, to keep all the dogs there. We will obviously visit this place. The dogs are all huskies, some are mixed, but they are all very beautiful. We will go there and will show you everything. Look what I have here in front of me, it’s a typical Greenlandic feast. These are extremely common dishes around here, and we can try them, if we want, of course. There is shrimp, extremely common, obviously, then we move here, there is cod, also a common dish, but here things start to get a little more complicated, take a look, this here is dried whale, it’s dried whale skin. In case you want something a little wilder, there’s raw whale, take a look, this one here can even be beluga. This little fish here is a bit more common. But if you want to go to the wild side, there’s also raw seal. Would you dare to try it? Tell me the truth! Dinner at Vega is always served on deck 4, at Swan Restaurant, always à la carte. I have to tell you that it’s really fancy, the meals are served in five courses, if you want, there’s always an appetizer option, then there’s soup, salad, main course and dessert. As the Cruise is all-inclusive, drinks are also free, the menu always offers a suggestion of red wine and white wine, but you can order whatever you want, all kinds of drinks, everything will be brought to your table. Let’s get started, the dishes are about to arrive. The soup has arrived, after a cold day like we had today, soup is the best thing to warm up. Today’s soup is cauliflower with pistachios, how fancy. Let’s try it, it looks delicious… Mmm, nice and warm, nice and warm. For the main course, the famous Surf and Turf, a term that originated in the United States in the 60s. The idea is to combine proteins and textures from the sea and the land. Here we have a cut of red meat accompanied by lobster. For dessert, look at the famous swans, symbols of Swan Hellenic, ready to be devoured. Before the night ended, we still had energy left to enjoy good music in the Observation Lounge. As you may know, this is not just a Cruise, nor just an expedition, we are in a luxury experience, and one of the best things about Swan is that it is all-inclusive, everything, from excursions, meals, to the return flight that we will take from Greenland to Iceland is included, room service is also included by the way. We’ve just woken up, we knew that we were going to be in a place just like this, with icebergs passing by our window, look at the size of that massive ice block passing by there. Then, we decided that today would be a perfect day for us to try out this room service, and we ordered breakfast here. We woke up with someone knocking at the door, bringing the tray. You choose everything, write on a piece of paper, leave it outside, and everything is delivered here to you, you can have a unique experience. Think about it, you’re on your balcony, having a delicious breakfast, with this wonderful view. The iceberg is here, I think if Tiago comes a little closer you can see it, it’s wonderful! You relish your drink while enjoying the splendid view. We’ve decided to have this experience ordering breakfast, but the room service is 24 hours, there are several things included, you can order whenever you want, from tea, sandwiches, you can have lunch and dinner in your cabin if you want. We’ve chosen this wonderful breakfast. So, come eat with us. We’ve arrived in Ilulissat. This is the northernmost point of our expedition with Swan Hellenic. Do you want to know whether we’re high? We’ve crossed the Arctic Circle a long time ago, and here we are seeing simply incredible landscapes that you won’t find anywhere else, thats why we wanted to come to the North Pole. These aren’t icebergs, not at all, this is an ice fjord, and it’s so important, so impressive, that it’s considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We’re going to sail through these fjords now. Look at this formation behind me, how impressive is the height of this wall. This is a landscape that you’ll only find on an expedition to the North Pole, that’s why it’s so special, and why we were so anxious to get to this city called Ilulissat. Do you know what the translation is? Icebergs! Yes, there’s no shortage of ice around here. And we will keep exploring. Let me tell you something interesting that I think everyone will be surprised about. The nearby glacier, from where all this ice comes, is the most active, most productive glacier in the world. To give you an idea of how much ice this glacier produces, how much ice it releases throughout the summer, it’s capable of supplying drinking water to the entire United States for a year, we’re talking about a lot of ice indeed. And the icebergs that come out of this glacier take 4 to 12 months to reach this region, and they can go to practically the entire world. To give you an idea, icebergs from this glacier specifically have already been found in Norway, in Iceland, have even come down close to Portugal, to Canada, everywhere. Due to that, there is a great chance, in fact, people here in Greenland believe it is certain, that the famous iceberg that sank the Titanic came out of this glacier, can you believe it? It produces this ice, which breaks and releases from here, as you can see. Then, the iceberg went to a specific point, which could only have come from here, and sank the Titanic. As we know, it is the most famous shipwreck in the world. Interesting, isn’t it? There is one more piece of information: The glacier extends one kilometer underwater, meaning it is very deep. In this region where we are, this bay is approximately 200 to 300 meters deep, which means that much of the ice that detaches, just like this one, is deeper, then it stays still here, it doesn’t move, that’s why it’s safe to sail around here, because this process takes a long time, either for them to melt or for them to break up, until they are able to leave this bay, because they have to reach a maximum depth of 200, 300 meters, and many are deeper than that. Then, what happens? We have this city of ice around us, which has become a World Heritage Site, and where we are having the privilege of sailing through. Interesting, just imagine… it could be that one of these icebergs here was the one that sank the Titanic. How fascinating! In addition to the ice fjords, if you’re lucky, you might find some whales around here. On the way back the boat speeds up, guaranteed excitement and water splashing everywhere. Take a look where we are now, this wonderful view here behind me. We are still at the ice fjords of Ilulissat, but now we will see them from another point of view. To get here, we went to Ilulissat Ice Fiord Center, which is a visitor center, from there, we took the wooden walkway you saw it’s a 3 km walk, then, we reached these rocks to enjoy the view you’re seeing now, and I have to say: it’s one of the most spectacular views I’ve seen in my life. Look at the amount of ice behind me, this is water, there are icebergs behind me, but they are so compact, there are so many icebergs, one so close to the other, that it looks like an ice field, but it is not, there is a lot of water here, and every now and then we hear that traditional noise of icebergs breaking off and falling into the water. It is a spectacular image! You can come here and visit this region for free, there are no restrictions, and get face to face with this wonderful landscape, exactly what we will do now, explore everything around here too. Our visit to Ilulissat and DisKo Bay is far from over. And yes, the most feared moment of the entire expedition has arrived. I’m not even talking about facing the wrath of Neptune, God of the Seas, who was furious that we had crossed the Arctic Circle without asking for permission, and then forced everyone to kiss the fish, and even drink a shot, as punishment. No, that’s nothing compared to what was yet to come. The moment has arrived, the most anticipated of any polar expedition, it’s time for the POLAR PLUNGE! Everybody is getting ready here, look: the door is already open, they are putting the ladder there, because it’s time to dive into the freezing waters of the Arctic. Everyone wants to, but not everyone has the courage, this experience is only for the strong. What do you think it will be like? We’ve already done it in Antarctica, I have to admit it wasn’t an easy task, I was really scared. What do you think it will be like now? Will the second time be easier? The scenery behind me is gorgeous, with lots of ice. Do you know the secret? It’s not thinking, it’s doing it like this, take off your robe and immediately go diving, come with us. That’s it, mission accomplished, there’s just one more thing left, a little drink to warm up, and that’s it. It’s so good. After so much adventure, the last days of the expedition are for relaxing. A last ride in the zodiac around Disko Bay before heading towards our next destination. Look at this formation behind me, there’s a blue stripe in it, this isn’t edited, this blue stripe really exists, it was a crack that appeared and then the water got refrozen in the middle, creating this formation that looks like it was hand-painted. The tenth day dawned simply spectacular. Even though it’s a small ship, we’re taking a trip with only 122 passengers, really exclusive. There are several services for you to use here, including a massage service, what I’m going to do now and show you. There’s even a beauty salon, where you can get your hair done, get a haircut, get your nails done, get your feet done, there are lots of things here for you to choose, let me show you a little. The last time we were here, we didn’t take advantage of this service, so, this time we want to have the full experience, I’m going to have a 90 minutes massage now. Let me show you a little bit. We also took the opportunity to use the laundry, which is free. There’s nothing better than leaving the expedition with clean clothes. Today’s drinks were made with ice taken straight from the glaciers. And look at this privilege, we also attended a lecture by photographer Marina Klink, wife of navigator Amir Klink. As we headed towards the last stop of the expedition, night was falling outside, and we couldn’t even imagine that we would be treated to an explosion in the sky. Do you remember when I said there would be more Northern Lights? Well, this time it came full of colors. I would like to take advantage of this moment on our balcony, sailing, with a panoramic view, to give you some important information. This Cruise we are taking is a one-way Cruise, only in one direction, starting in one place and ending in another. We departure from Iceland and will disembark inGreenland, a very remote place. Then, in some cases, like this one, that you disembark in Greenland, you need to go back to your point of origin. For that, there is a chartered flight by the company that will take us from Greenland back to Iceland, and this is already included in the price of your Cruise. This is perfect, because it is not easy to get a flight in Greenland. After all of this, you must be wondering: "But how much does it cost to have an experience like the one you are having, on an expedition through the Arctic?" For the 2025 season, an expedition just like the one we did, costs $11,680 per person. But there are more affordable options. Such as expeditions to Greenland, round-trip from Iceland, starting at $6,980. To book, or for more information about itineraries, send an email to the address on the screen, just scan the QR Code. What a spectacular trip that was! Don’t forget to like this video, subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already, and if you want to see another spectacular expedition, stay with us and watch the adventure we had through Antarctica with Swan Helenic. See you next time! Bye.
