Have you ever imagined what it would be like to board a time machine and go back to the past, almost 5000 years ago? Fasten your seatbelts, we’ll show you now. Twelve days on an expedition to the cradle of civilization, exploring the beginnings ofhumanity, and of course, there is no shortage of pyramids around here. The mysteries of the only one of the seven wonders of the world that still exists. We are facing the pyramid of Cheops the largest in the world, gigantic, wonderful, a world symbol that everyone wants to know. But we went further, and got inside the pyramid. A dark, stuffy climb to the tomb room. I don’t think I’ve ever sweat so much in my life it makes me feel desperate at times. We visited the oldest pyramid in the world, which didn’t turn out very well. They were still learning, they were testing. We found a pyramid that doesn’t even have a pyramid shape. It’s the only one with inscriptions inside. This is just the beginning. We stayed face to face with the most famous mummy in the world, The Pharaoh Tutankhamun. We visited the city that held much of humanity’s knowledge. Alexandria was the capital of Egypt for a thousand years. We saw the statue that they tried to steal, but were unable to carry. And we embarked on a luxury Cruise along one of the largest and most mystical rivers on the planet, the Nile. On board this Cruise we will visit the most beautiful temples in Egypt and you will follow along with us.. How about going shopping during the Cruise? But in a different way. There is also a lot of fun along this adventure, a cinematic balloon ride and the all-inclusive resort on the Red Sea, which is not red at all, on the contrary, the beaches are paradisiacal, an impressive blue. We also give you practical tips so you don’t get in trouble. There are people here trying to scam you all the time. We’ll tell you how much all of this costs and will show you a way to save on your expedition. Come with us to be face to face with this wonder of the ancient world Welcome to Egypt. Hi guys, good morning! Look at us starting a special new day, after all, it’s not every day that you wake up like this, looking at of the seven wonders of the ancient world the only one that still exists. We are in Egypt, more specifically in the Pyramids of Giza. Cheops at the end there, Mycerinus at the end here, and in the middle, Chephren, the three pyramids of grandfather, father and son, this wonderful place that we will show you from now on. That’s not all, there’s a lot coming. We’re going to explore all of Egypt, starting with the pyramids, but ending up at the Red Sea, it will be spectacular. I need to tell you that we are taking this trip at the invitation of Cia Trip, a travel agency that we have known for a long time, since the time we went to Antarctica, do you remember that amazing video we did? They were there with us, and now we’re getting to know Egypt with Cia Trip, it’s awesome. They have a complete package, so you don’t have to worry about anything, because even though we travel on our own, there are places where we can’t do this, and Egypt is one of them. They organized everything for us, everything you see here was arranged by Cia Trip. We will leave their contact here, so you can also organize your trip to Egypt with them. More than that, Viaje Por Conta followers have a discount, 5%, just say that you arrived through Viaje Por Conta, go to the QR code, send a message, talk to them, and they will organize your trip too. I think this will be one of those spectacular vlogs, seeing that Egypt is awesome. It’s not only the pyramids, there is much more to come. Let’s get to know Egypt with us from now on. Leave your like for this video, subscribe to our channel and share it with your friends. Let’s go! Before getting to know the pyramids up close, write down some important tips for your trip: To arrive in Egypt we made a connection in Qatar. The airport is modern, and on the way back we made a stopover, we stayed in Doha without paying anything extra for the ticket, it’s a great way to visit two countries in a single trip. There is a video on the channel showing our visit to Qatar, after finishing this one, check it out. As soon as you arrive in Egypt you need to buy a visa at the airport, which costs 25 dollars, it’s a good idea to bring change, it’s not complicated, and the Cia Trip guide helps you with the entire process. You will also need your passport, yellow fever vaccination certificate and travel insurance, which is not mandatory, but highly recommended. The currency here is the Egyptian pound, but you can bring dollars and exchange them here easily. This is the exchange rate at the moment: 1 dollar is equivalent to 31 Egyptian pounds and 1 real is 6.2 pounds. Here is an important piece of information: stay alert so you don’t fall for scams, because there are people here trying to scam you all the time. There are people selling everything around here, that’s normal, but there’s a scam that people try to apply to you, I’ll explain how it works, so you don’t fall for it. Some guys keep walking around here with badges and they sort of give orders to you, saying that you can’t walk there, they blow a whistle and say you have to get out of there, then they come up to you saying they are security agents, insistently asking to see your ticket, "hey, where is your ticket?" And if you fall for the scam and present the ticket, they say "your ticket is not valid for that area", that you can’t be there, that you need another ticket, that you have to pay if you come there, and they keep demanding money from you. Some people end up giving them money, because they believe those people are from security, but they are not! so, don’t obey these orders, if you see these people with badges, with whistles… They are not from here! It’s a scam, don’t give your money! just answer, no, no, no, lá, lá, lá, lá means no, no, no in Arabic. Just say lá, lá, lá, that’s it, don’t fall for the scam. You can visit Egypt all year round, but believe me, in the summer months you will roast in the heat, it is unfeasible, so, avoid the months of June, July and August. The first question many people have is "Where exactly the Pyramids are located?" Most of Egypt’s territory is located in Africa, close to the Middle East, and the capital, Cairo, is to the north, but the pyramids are about 20 km away, in Giza, which in the past was a necropolis, while Cairo was the city of the living, Giza was the city of the dead. Anyone who thinks that nowadays the pyramids are alone, isolated in the middle of the desert is wrong. Look at this scenery of us arriving at the Pyramids Complex How wonderful! Now we are here, next to the only wonder of the ancient world that is still standing. We are facing the pyramid of Cheops, the largest in the world, gigantic, wonderful, a world symbol that everyone wants to know, and I’ll tell you the truth, it’s exciting to be here guys, it’s an incredible experience, we came to the other side in order to get this, few people around, there is just one person here, another one is passing by, but it is a peaceful place. If you want different photos, this is the place, as in front of it is very crowded. An important piece of information, you can get inside the pyramid, you buy a separate ticket, it costs 600 Egyptian pounds, which is about R$100.00, So, you buy this ticket separately, this ticket is not part of the itinerary we are doing, it is not part of the package, you already have the ticket to enter the park, but not to enter the pyramid, you buy it separately in case you want to visit the inside. We will do this now, we’ll take some more photos and will go there. Let’s go! In the Archaeological Site there are three main pyramids, the great pyramid of Giza is the largest of them made of limestone and granite, it was 146 m high when it was built, and today, with erosion and vandalism, it measures 138 m, there are more than 2 million stone blocks, some weighing more than 50 tons. Can you imagine that? It began to be built in 2,580 BC to be Pharaoh Cheops tomb. In the middle is Chephren pyramid, Cheops’ son, it was built shortly afterwards. At first glance it looks bigger than the father’s pyramid, doesn’t it? But it’s not, in fact, it was built on higher ground, and it is 3 m shorter. The third one is Cheops’ grandson pyramid, Mycerinus. As he ruled for a short time, he did not have time to complete his own pyramid, so it ended up being much smaller, 65 m high. As the Egyptians believed in life after death, when pharaohs died, they were mummified and buried with all their most valuable objects. So, It’s time to gather courage and enter this ancient tomb and discover what’s inside. The entrance is through a small hole, known as the thieves’ tunnel. Right at the beginning of the climb, the passage becomes very narrow and dark. We used a portable light to see better and be able to film for you. The path is tight and scalding. Much of the climb has to be done like this, lowered. There are two mandatory items to bring to the inside of the pyramid, a light, as here you can see very little, it could be your cell phone’s flash, and a small hand fan, it helps a lot. We’ve now finished the first part, there’s obviously more to go up, apparently it’s a lot, so we had to take a break now, and the little fan is saving us. After resting a bit, more climbing, sometimes you can climb standing up, because the height is much greater. Even with this relief, the extreme heat makes us think about giving up at all times. In the final stage we have to crouch once again, and through a small corridor we reach the King’s Chamber, a room measuring 10m by 5m and almost 6m high. It is entirely covered in granite and extremely hot. The only object there is a granite sarcophagus with one of the corners broken. The pharaoh’s mummy was never found, nor were the treasures. Around the sarcophagus many people sing and say prayers. Until this day, the pyramid of Cheops has not been completely explored and there are doubts whether this is in fact the pharaoh’s sarcophagus. A few years ago, a large empty space in the pyramid was discovered, 30 m wide by 8 m high, but no one was ever able to reach it. What’s there, huh? The descent is a little less exhausting, but the heat is almost unbearable, and there is not enough air. It’s worth remembering that you still need to share the path with those who are climbing. I confess that at a certain point what I wanted most was to get out of there. Let me tell you something, only come if you’re really willing, because in spite of beeing an experience of a lifetime, it’s not easy, it’s arduous, I don’t think I’ve ever sweat so much in my life, it’s distressing, it’s despairing at times, because I’m very tall, the place is very short, and the little hand fan was what made me breathe at times, it’s difficult, but it’s awesome. Let’s continue enjoying the day. Do you see this wonderful view we are having now? There is a place for this, of course not everyone can access it, that’s why we are here alone, seeing the camels passing by, you can see them passing over there, look at this, it looks like a scene from a movie, it’s wonderful. We are having lunch at this restaurant called Nine Pyramids, located inside the pyramid complex. Why is it called Nine Pyramids? Because in addition to the three main pyramids, there are three others here, small ones, there are other three over there, so, there are nine pyramids in total, and there is this restaurant here in the complex called Nine Pyramids. You can make a reservation and come have lunch here. The Cia Trip package has lunch included every day, but not specifically at this location, as it is more expensive. But if you arrange beforehand, if you book it in advance, you can include this restaurant in your package, then you only pay the difference, which in our case was about US$ 20 per person. And then you have this wonderful view, and you turn here, look at the restaurant, how cool is that, right? And you eat right here. Hey, you’re in Egypt, are you going to miss the chance to have lunch here, look, at this place, overlooking this wonder right next to us? For us it was really worth it, it’s breathtaking, just like a movie passing in front of your eyes what an incredible place. If you just want to take photos, you can pay this difference, and enjoy this delicious lunch. Let’s end with this image, with the camels passing by, with the pyramid in the background. It is stunning. We’re going to have lunch now. When in Egypt, it’s obvious that besides visiting the pyramids, you cannot miss a visit to the sphinx, right behind me, it’s wonderful. It was built at a strategic point, to protect the pyramids. in fact, there are several meanings for it. It has the body of a lion, the head of a man it means strength, courage, wisdom, that’s marvelous. It is extraordinary. We’re going to take some photos here now, because we came in the late afternoon and it closes at five, let’s see what we can do while you appreciate some more images. The great Sphinx of Giza was built during the reign of Pharaoh Chephren, the second pyramid, It is believed that his face is represented on it, and to this day it is the largest statue made from a single stone in the world, it’s 73 m long, 19 wide and 20 high. It is not known exactly when it was built, but it was around 2,500 years BC, which means that it’s another masterpiece with at least 4,500 years of history. We are now about 30km from Cairo, to get to know the oldest city in Egypt. We arrived in Memphis. Memphis was the capital of Egypt for about 1,000 years, when Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt were unified, and the city has something impressive for you to see, we’ll show you right away. Here in Memphis there is a must-visit that will impress you in a unique way, it is this right in front of me, the Colossus of Ramses II. This incredible 15 m statue was found in 1834, standing upright. And everything you see was sculpted in a single limestone, which is said to shine in the sun and be even more beautiful. In case you don’t know, Egypt means Land of Artisans, and here is a living proof of the work, the quality, and what they were capable of doing. It’s so beautiful. And I need to tell you something interesting: when the statue was discovered in this hole, it was given as a gift to the British at the time, and then they said: "Of course we want it, we’re going to take it" but they couldn’t manage to move it, as it is too heavy. It weighs more than 1 ton. They even tried to remove part of the leg to see if it would make it easier to move it, but it was not. Then they said: "we appreciate the gift, but we can’t take it away, just leave it here." After that, this room was built to protect this impressive work of art. Now we are visiting the first pyramid in history, this one behind me, called Step Pyramid. You’re used to seeing those straight, perfect pyramids, aren’t you? This one is different, they were still learning, they were testing. In fact, this wasn’t supposed to be a pyramid, they kept adding the floors and got six of them. The first idea was just to make one floor, a typical ancient Egyptian tomb, but they started to build other floors on top, and then it became what is now a pyramid. So, this one is the first one, it’s the oldest, from 4,600 years ago. There are things we see here that we don’t even imagine are pyramids, like this one, doesn’t it just look like a pile of dirt? No, this is a Pyramid indeed, it is super special, it is the pyramid of Unas, the only one that has inscriptions inside. Let’s get to know it. The inscriptions known as the pyramid text were discovered in 1881 and are the oldest religious writings found until today. They were intended to guide the pharaoh’s soul on his journey to the next world. Back at the hotel after a long but wonderful day, we really felt in Egypt, as we did the coolest things here in Cairo, and now I want to show you our hotel. We’re going to rest, obviously, but do you know why I’m opening here? Firstly, because it’s a mess, rush hour, the traffic is crazy, a lot of horns, there are no rules, there are no crosswalks, so, it’s honking all the time, it’s really crazy, as you can see. Nevertheless, I’m starting from the balcony because we have this breathtaking view of the Nile River. This one is the world famous Nile River. We are so close to one of the largest rivers in the world, so emblematic, and sacred too. It’s right here in front of us. Let’s get to know our awesome room then. We are in a hotel called Ramses Hilton, and normally this the one the Cia Trip package includes for you to stay. It’s a very large room. We start with a very nice little room, where you can sit and rest, you can eat here if you want, order food service as well. There are two beds, it’s spacious, it’s really nice, I do not need to say that these are trinkets that we’ve already bought. Here is the bathroom, there is a bathtub, it’s awesome, take a look. That’s it guys, this is our room, this is where we’re going to stay for four nights. Now we’re going to rest, because it’s been a long day, and there’s much more coming, I’m going to sit down for a bit, and let me warn you: try to sleep as much as possible, because the trip is hectic. Be aware about something really important, that we have heard a lot, we have received tips from people who have already been here, everyone tells you to be very careful with what you eat, especially in outdoor places, right? Never eat raw salad, don’t eat fruit, don’t drink juice, only bottled water, because we don’t want to get sick. And this is a real problem here. So, you don’t want to have stomach ache, or diarrhea, so, you have to be very careful with that, always choose well cooked food. As we are in a good hotel, of a high category, where we see people wearing gloves, and preparing food with all hygiene, we are eating fruit, drinking juice, but it’s the only place where we’re taking the risk If you know what I mean. But outside, we are not eating salad, we are also only drinking bottled water. By the way, water is a serious problem here, you are constantly warned not to buy water from those street vendors, because you never know whether that bottle was opened before and maybe that water might not be really pure and original. Be always aware! here at the hotel we are eating, drinking, and everything is right. Egypt clearly lives a lot from this glorious past of the pharaohs and the pyramids, but there is also a modern Egypt, with a completely different culture. For you to have an idea, 90% of Egypt’s population is Islamic, it’s an Arabic culture, we’ll also get to know this really important side here in Cairo For that, we came to Saladin’s Fortress. Saladin was the first sultan in Egypt during Arabic times. After the invasion they dominated Egypt from the Catholics, who were in charge for six centuries, then the Arabs came, took over the country, and there are still many remnants from that time, such as the fortress where we are and this beautiful mosque. We are at Muhamed Ali Mosque. We will visit the inside, the outside of the fortress is beautiful and you can have a spectacular view of Cairo from here. It was built at the time of the Crusaders, when Europe was invading a lot of the world, especially the Arabic world, Israel, Turkey and here too. This fortress was built as a protection during the Crusaders wars, and it did. It is standing until today and we are going to visit it. It is possible even to see the pyramids from here. Let’s get to know it then. Another interesting thing here at the fortress is that you have a panoramic view of Cairo, look at that, seeing that it’s located in a high point. I’ll start on this side, showing you this giant building, the Sultan Hassan, one of the oldest mosques in Cairo, 800 years old. Cairo has about 1,000 mosques. On this other side you can see a gigantic courtyard, it’s another mosque, and then, when we think about panoramic view, we wonder whether it would be possible to see the city’s main attraction from up here. After all, If I am in Paris, I can see the Eiffel Tower. If I am in Rome, I can see the Colosseum. I tell you that, theoretically, yes, you could see the pyramids from here, they are right here, look, behind me. However, as the city lives in a dry state, it isn’t possible, there’s a lot of dust, a lot of sand, the view is impaired, sometimes the pyramids hide, sometimes they reveal themselves a little more. Now it’s difficult to see them. We’ll try to zoom in, I don’t think we’ll be able to see them well though. But the answer is yes, if you’re lucky and the weather is clear, you can get a panoramic view of the pyramids from here. We are now visiting the market called Khan Al-Khalili, the most important in Egypt and the Middle East. It is a beautiful place, where you can find everything, from lamps, souvenirs, spices, rugs, papyrus, you name it, is truly amazing. We’re going to walk around here now and you’re going to follow us a little bit, let’s go. When purchasing something in Egypt you have to bargain all the time, okay. We’re now at the papyrus museum and look, there’s an infinite number of works of art for you to take away, one more beautiful than the other. But you have to negotiate. These papyri we bought originally cost 1,000 pounds each, we are taking four for 2,000 pounds, which means half the price. This applies to absolutely everything, so, negotiate to avoid spending more than you should. Here we also see up close how papyrus is made, an ancient technique. It all starts with this aquatic plant, the stem is cut into thin layers, then beaten and kneaded to extract as much water as possible. Time to intertwine the fibers and put them in the press. Once dry, the papyrus is ready to be decorated however you want. In a mixture of tradition and modernity, how about a papyrus that glows in black light? Some of them even have different designs when in light or dark. If yesterday we had lunch with view of the pyramids, today the scenery is a little different. We are on the banks of the Nile River, look what a spectacle. A floating restaurant called Al Saraya. This lunch is included in your package when you hire Cia Trip, okay? It is a self service restaurant, the kind we love, you can serve yourself as much as you want, there is an enormous table full of starters, main dishes, and look at this dessert table we will show you in a little while. It’s incredible, I’m enjoying it a lot, let’s go eat then. It’s remarkable to visit these ancient archaeological sites, to see the places where everything happened, to see ruins, or to see incredible things, like the pyramids, however, for the visit to be complete you must visit the museum, where the ancient objects are kept. This is precisely what we’re doing now, we’re at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and absolutely everything that’s here is original. We’re going to see the oldest statue in the world, we’re going to see mummies, sarcophagi, there are so many things here. There’s even a statue of Cheops, the one who built the biggest pyramid, it’s the only statue found inside the pyramid, and it’s here in the Egyptian museum of Cairo, and we’ll visit it, obviously. It’s huge, stunning, beautiful. In case you want to see everything, you have to stay here the entire day. We won’t stay, we have no time, nevertheless, we’ll be able to show you lots of interesting things. Another piece of information: this place is home to Tutankhamun’s treasure, do you understand how important this is? Let’s go visit it then, I think it will be incredible. This may be the oldest statue in the world. It was found inside the step pyramid, the first one made and that we visited in Saqqara. This tiny statue is Cheops, do you remember him? The owner of the largest pyramid in the world? Chephren, the owner of the second pyramid, has a much larger and more special statue. It is made of diorite, considered the second hardest stone in the world, the first is diamond. This stone is almost impossible to be carved, so, this is a great work of art. It’s interesting because from the front you only see Chephren, but when you go around you see a hawk behind, which means protection. Wonderful! Come closer, I would like to show you this statue here, considered the Mona Lisa of Egypt, look at it. This statue is 4,600 years old, made of wood, represents a priest, and then, as you walk, do you know the eyes of Mona Lisa that accompany you? His eyes also accompany you. Look at his eyes, how defined they are. Guys, can you believe this is a 4,600 year old wooden statue? It’s impressive! It’s the kind of thing that you’ll only be able to find in Egypt. And what is the museum highlight? It is this room behind me, where there are several objects found in Tutankhamun’s tomb. You’ve certainly heard of Tutankhamun, haven’t you? He wasn’t even a very important pharaoh, he was only in charge for a few years, but his importance is because, until nowadays, Tutankhamun’s tomb was the only one found completely preserved, with the mummy and all the objects inside it. We’re going to talk a lot more about this in the next video, I’m already giving you a spoiler, we’re actually going to visit Tutankhamun’s tomb, but here we’re going to see some objects, including Tutankhamun’s mask, Come with me, It’s forbidden to film inside, but we’ll show you some photos, let’s go. Tutankhamun’s tomb was the only one found intact, but the tombs of Tutankhamun’s great-grandparents had many things inside too, and this entire area is dedicated to them. These are his great-grandmother’s and great-grandfather’s masks. We will see everything here, the golden tombs, their belongings, everything. Let’s keep visiting this amazing place. Our visit to Cairo is coming to an end, however, the expedition through Egypt is still far from over. I’ll tell you what else is coming, but you must certainly be curious to know how much it costs to take this unforgettable trip, right? I’ll tell you now. Cia Trip packages for 12 days and 11 nights start at US$ 2,270, approximately R$11.350,00. Don’t worry, Viaje Por Conta followers have a discount, so, it’s cheaper. This price includes accommodation, land and air transportation within Egypt, every day lunch, guides in Portuguese, and even a luxury Cruise along the Nile River, which we’ll show you in the next video. There’s also an all-inclusive resort, where you can relax comfortably at the end of your trip. It’s a lot of perks, everything included in the package. This is also subject for the next video. Don’t waste more time though, point your cell phone’s camera at the QR Code on the screen, or click on the link in the video description, and start planning your expedition to Egypt. The Cia Trip staff will organize everything for you. If you want a private trip, just tell them, they’ll give you all the details.
