Cabine #11 My hearing doesn’t work the way society wants. I am deaf since I was 8 months old. I am a museum educator, poet, and a party producer for the deaf community. Communication between deaf people generally is visual, with facial expressions, with the body, with hands. Also with lip reading because we have hearing limitations. Because of the lack of knowledge, a lot of people tell me I don’t look like a deaf person. Deaf? Don’t I look like it? Do I need to have a face that looks like a deaf person? Today there is a little more accessibility for deaf people. In some places one can find sign language interpreters. Ok. There are subtitles. Phew! Great! However, sign language interpreters need formal certification in this field. Just imagine a Law interpreter interpreting a musical. I need to go to my friend’s who lives in an apartment. How? There is an intercom. I am deaf. Deaf. Deaf. I am deaf. Deaf. You can see the doorman through the glass. How? And then the doorman shows up and I say ‘I am deaf’. For God’s sake! Don’t send me audio messages through the phone. I can’t hear a thing! I hate it! I can’t hear a thing! Don’t you understand I’m deaf? Some people can hear but can’t think. ♪♫♬ Do you have trans collegues at your office? Or employ any transexual? This scenario impoverishes the population, marginalizes, and ultimately kills. A lot.
